SERAS Kick-off Meeting in Genoa

The SERAS project, Single European Railway Area of Skills Alliance, officially started with its kick-off meeting, held on 29 and 30 January 2026 at the University of Genoa, Italy.

The four-year project, coordinated by Professor Angela Di Febbraro from the University of Genoa, Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transportation Engineering, brings together 22 partners from 10 European countries, to create a sustainable and integrated European ecosystem for railway enhancement for the sector, ensuring a resilient, skilled and mobile workforce across the EU.
On the occasion of the SERAS kick-off meeting, over 40 participants, from the consortium and from the Advisory Board members, met to share the project structure and plan activities across work packages. During the meeting, partners discussed the project structure, the planned activities across the Work Packages, and the long-term strategy to address skills shortages in the European railway sector.

SERAS aims to implement the results of the STAFFER Blueprint by establishing a Pact for Skills Large-scale Skills Partnership in the rail sector, strengthening cooperation among stakeholders, improving employability and attractiveness of railway careers, supporting diversity, and developing new training approaches aligned with the green and digital transition.
