Our objectives

Building the railway skills ecosystem for the Single European Railway Area

Our overarching goal is to establish a solid and sustainable railway skills ecosystem for the whole sector that supports harmonisation, attractiveness of railway occupations, cross border mobility and competences. This overarching goal will be implemented by six objectives.

Improve employability and attractiveness

By promoting the railway sector as an innovative, smart, sustainable and responsible mobility ecosystem that offers multiple exiting and attractive career paths in a large variety of occupations across all qualification levels.

Provide skill intelligence and forecasting

By setting a place a robust and comprehensive methodology of identifying new trends and drivers that result in new skills needs and anticipating skills gaps and new emerging requirements, e.g. in addressing new emerging risks.

Tackle workforce shortages and skills gaps

By implementing the rail sector action plan and policy recommendations of the STAFFER Blueprint Project (2020 – 2024) and implementing European coordinated initiatives in a collaborative approach of all relevant rail sector stakeholders at transnational, European and national level.

Innovate railway education and training

By creating innovation in railway education and training by modular, micro-credential-based curricula aligned with European policy standards and tools, and a European “Rail Skills Academy”.

Promote learning mobility across borders

By fostering the mobility of initial learners, trainees, students, trainers and professional staff through a dedicated “Rail Erasmus Hub” addressing in particular the younger generation of learners and students.

Sustaining and expanding the Alliance

By a strong partnership and an approach that is open for new members from the very beginning with the aim to establish a Large-Scale Skills Partnership based on shared commitments of the railway sector to support upskilling and reskilling opportunities.
